Story

Get to Know Us

Shape Yourself is a small Metis family owned and operated business that strives to help others. Born out of passion and what Jessie and Mitch (co-owners) feel is a necessity in today's world of quick fixes.

In a society built on social media, instant gratification, and constant messaging about what you should look like, how you should eat, what exercises will get you there today, etc., we understand the value of a holistic informed approach that will allow our clients to not only achieve their goal, but find happiness as well.

About Us.

Shape Yourself was born out of a passion for fitness and education, as well as a clear need to approach health from a holistic perspective. Jessie has always been an active individual, however, it wasn’t until after becoming a mom that she started to delve deeper into fitness. As a stay at home mom of three young children, living in the country, there was a struggle to find a piece of herself. It’s not easy to make time for yourself, or even to admit that you need that sometimes, but with time and a consistent routine Jessie slowly made time for her fitness and noticed a positive effect on her mental health as well. If you speak with her, she will often say that running is her therapy, and it is the point where her journey began. She found something she enjoyed that was challenging and improved her health. The goal, however, was much larger. She started doing high intensity interval training (HITT), lifting weights, and doing yoga at home. As her passion grew, she watched her children join in and try things with her as well. That, above even her own mental and physical wellness, became her why. Empowering her children to stay active and try new things, and be able to do those activities with her children has been the driving force behind her decisions.

Mitch ended up following suit, out of necessity for his own health. Working long hours at a sedentary job and overeating led to an 'uh-oh' moment, where he had to sit down and figure out what he wanted for his future. For someone who always strived to do well at work, and volunteered at the local fire department, it wasn't easy making time for himself without feeling guilty that he was or may be missing out on time with his family. That being said, a little bit of encouragement goes a long way and Mitch found that his own why centered around his family, being present and able to participate in activities with their children.

As a unit, Jessie and Mitch worked hard to grow together, even though they struggled like many partners with young children, and not making time for each other. After making some tough decisions, they started attending couples counseling and relocated back the 'big city' of Timmins, where they started communicating and working together. Both of them understand the value of hard work, what it means to balance a busy schedule, and that it takes a lot of work and dedication to reach your goals.

With Mitch's full support, Jessie was able to take the next step in her career and start offering coaching services to help other individuals, partners, and families improve their health and wellbeing. Worth noting, as Jessie is a bit of an over achiever, Shape Yourself is also able to offer group rates for programs and classes (if you have any questions regarding group programs, please reach out via e-mail or phone).

Meet the Team

Jessie & Mitch

Jessie & Mitch Lamontagne are co-founders and owners of Shape Yourself Inc. They have set out to create something that improves not just the physical, but also the mental and the emotional health of individuals. While Jessie is the active operator, the coach that works one on one with clients, Mitch is the business pro, dealing with the technical behind the scenes work. Together they form a cohesive unit that ensures the business runs smoothly and you receive the best service possible.

About Jessie.

Jessie grew up in Welland, Ontario. As a child she was described by family as a fish. Having learned to swim before bothering to walk in the waters of Marten Lake. The youngest of two children, she was always encouraged to challenge her limits and may have developed a competitive streak. From formative years in dance and gymnastics, to tae kwon do and swim team in high school, and biking or rollerblading pretty much everywhere, she always found ways to keep moving.

Jessie attended both college and university in North Bay, Ontario, earning a degree in history and a diploma in social services. During this time, she started exercising at the gym and developed a love for running (despite not being able to go very far at first). Less than a year after graduating, she moved to Timmins to be with Mitch. Life changed quickly, first a home, then getting married, and starting a family. The chaos of motherhood definitely had an impact and there was a real struggle with where she was and where she wanted to be. Being a full time mom of three children (within three and a half years), living in an isolated area, and finding time to do the things that are needed to keep your mental health afloat is not easy. Choices happen, sacrifices happen. At the end of the day, Jessie invested in a workout program and even ran her first half marathon when her youngest was 18 months (huge shout out to her friend Jenny for the support and encouragement there…and for taking on some verbal abuse near kilometer 18).

Since then, Jessie has dedicated a lot of her life to fitness education and setting new challenges for herself. She now has multiple marathons and half marathons under her belt, as well as, obstacle races and a triathlon. As for education, she is now certified as a Personal Trainer, Yoga Instructor, Group Fitness Instructor, LesMills RMP Instructor, Nutrition Coach, and other specialized certifications (feel free to ask her about them). With the support of her husband, Mitch, she decided it was time to branch out and put all of the knowledge and skills she has developed over the years to use helping others.

While she can still be found teaching morning spin and kettlebell classes, she is happy to finally be following her passion and making her own path as co-owner and operator of Shape Yourself.

    About Mitch.

Mitch was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario. The youngest of three boys, he has always had a competitive streak and participated in school sports. He grew up a typical northern kid, hunting and fishing, swimming in the strong current of the Mattagami river and spending a lot of time with friends and family.

Now as a father of 3, he is doing all that he can to show his children what it means to be active and enjoy life. Annual camping and hunting trips are always planned, as well as random evening and weekend activities, like archery practice, hiking, fishing, and family bike rides. Despite his full-time job being sedentary, he stays active biking and playing with his children, training for triathlon’s, and just doing his absolute best to be present and active every day.

It hasn’t always been an easy balance to find. At one point, Mitch’s own health was at risk. After settling into fatherhood and working full-time with a commute, he gained a lot of weight. Inactivity, over-eating, and struggling with his mental wellness all played a role. Fortunately for himself and the family, Mitch had a moment of realization when he looked back at some photos and decided to make a change, to live a healthier life.

He started tracking his food intake, paying more attention to his nutrition, and setting his often dreaded alarm for as early as 3am to make sure that he got to the gym before work. At his peak, Mitch lost over 75 pounds and even ran his first ever half marathon! Since then, admittedly, he has had to fight to regain his balance, through job changes and moving cities. Yet, he has still managed to do things he never thought possible. He ran his first ever Marathon, his first ever Olympic Triathlon, and completed the Spartan Trifecta challenge all in 2024!

Now he plans to continue doing triathlon’s, more to prove to his children that you can do anything you set your mind to. He also followed our children into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training and tried other activities including underwater rugby (yes, you read that right). His why has never changed and he continues to set personal goals and develop his own routine to achieve them.

Mitch is a fun, kind, and welcoming individual. He has always been a hard worker and is happy to be a business owner as well. While he doesn’t work with our clients directly, he will always be their biggest supporter!
